Rhapsody of Realities TeeVo Devotional 3rd August – Your Heart Hears God

(Listen Carefully For God’s Guidance With Your Spirit)

TO THE BIBLE: Genesis 28:16
“Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.”

LET’S TALK
“Here I am,” young Samuel answered and darted over to Priest Eli, thinking he had called for him. However, it wasn’t Eli who called Samuel but the Lord Himself, and He did so thrice. Eli knew this, and smiling to himself, he advised the young prophet-in-training to reply, “Speak, Lord, for your servant hears,” when next he heard the Voice calling him (1 Samuel 3:1-10).

If, like young Samuel, you’re not trained to recognize the Lord’s voice, He could be present in a place, talking to you, and you wouldn’t even know it! It happened once to Jacob: he only realised he’d been in God’s presence when he dreamt and saw angels ascending to and descending from Heaven. This still happens today.

Sometimes, during a service, we could say, “The Lord is in this place,” and some people would be looking around for a spectacular sign—like a fierce wind, or smoke, or fire—as proof of His presence. However, the Lord doesn’t always announce Himself that way.

Think about it, one time, Prophet Elijah expected God to manifest with some spectacular wind, earthquake or fire as He did with Moses (Exodus 19:9-20). Instead, He came in a still small voice (1 Kings 19:9-13).

This is typical of how the Lord leads us today through His Word and the Holy Spirit; He guides you from within, in your spirit. Proverbs 20:27 says, “The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner depths of his heart.” That’s where the light of God is; that’s where He guides you from.

God doesn’t lead anyone through the senses, so don’t wait for a spectacular “feeling” or some goosebumps; God’s Word in your spirit is all you need. Listen for His voice in your day-to-day activities; listen to Him in your spirit, for He addresses His Word to your heart.
