(Eternal Life Is More Than Living Forever)

TO THE BIBLE: John 3:15 NKJV
“Whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

LET’S TALK
At seventeen, Paula had a question no one seemed able to answer. One evening, while walking home under a sky brushed with fading light, she asked her older brother, “What does it actually mean to have eternal life?” He paused and offered what he had heard before: “It means you’ll live forever.”

But something about that answer felt incomplete. Surely, eternal life had to mean more than simply existing forever.

Indeed, it does. What if you were sharing the Gospel with someone and they asked you the same question: “What is eternal life?” Here is a simple way to define it. Eternal life is the life and nature of God.

While that may not be a strict definition, it expresses the quality of life it is: divine and distinct from all other forms of life.

Here’s another definition that drives it home. Eternal life refers to the organic and existential attributes of Deity.

This matters because, across cultures, many claim belief in different gods, but none of them possesses eternal life. It is this life—God’s very own—that separates Him from all others.

The Lord Jesus said, “For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself” (John 5:26, NKJV).

And the Bible declares, “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life” (1 John 5:20, NKJV). Jesus Christ is the embodiment of eternal life.

When He walked the earth, He was life revealed in human form: “(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it…)” (1 John 1:2, KJV).

That is the life He came to give—His own life. This is the Gospel: eternal life is real, and it is free. All you have to do is receive it.

Speak:
I rejoice in knowing that I have the life and nature of God in me—the organic and existential attributes of deity. This divine life sets me apart and empowers me to live victoriously. I walk in the consciousness of this incorruptible, impregnable and invincible life in me. Hallelujah!
