The Days Of The Latter Rain – Rhapsody TeeVo Devotional October 6th

(We’re Living In The Days Of Greater Glory, Grace And Power)

TO THE BIBLE: James 5:7
“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.”

LET’S TALK
The Lord Jesus often spoke about God the Father as the husbandman—He’s like a farmer, caring for what He has planted. He’s also waiting for the harvest like any farmer would, but this harvest in question is the precious fruit of the earth. That’s us, the Church, the body of Christ.

Our opening verse also points to the husbandman waiting for the early and latter rain. These rains represent outpourings of the Holy Spirit.

For Israel, the latter rain began on the Day of Pentecost. Peter confirmed this in Acts 2:17 when he said, “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh….” That moment marked the beginning of the outpouring that had been prophesied to take place in the last days.

But there’s more insight to this promise in Hosea 6:3. It reads: “He will come to us like the rain, like the latter and former rain to the earth.” This shows us that both Israel and the Church are part of God’s plan.

While Pentecost was the latter rain for Israel, it was the early rain for the Church. That rain—the Holy Spirit’s outpouring—was just the beginning. It was like the first rain after planting seeds, causing the Word of God to sprout and grow in people’s hearts.

The prophet Haggai also spoke of a greater glory to come in Haggai 2:9: “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former.”

That means what the Lord is doing now—in us, through us, and with us—is even greater than what happened in the early days of the Church. We are living in the days of greater glory, where the Church will manifest even more of God’s grace and power.

Peter, James and John lived in the last days concerning Israel, but we live in the last days concerning the Church.

The latter rain for Israel is the early rain for the Church, and we’re living in the time of the fullness of that latter rain. Hallelujah!
