(Stay Conscious of Your Divine Identity)
TO THE BIBLE: 1 John 5:13 NKJV
“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, [a]and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.”
LET’S TALK
Jerry studied hard for his exams, but on the morning of the big test, he froze. Anxiety kicked in. Then his older sister, who had taken the same exam the year before, reminded him, “You’ve done the work. The knowledge is already in you just stay calm and let it flow.”
That’s exactly what the Apostle John was communicating in our opening verse: you already have eternal life—the very life and nature of God inside you—and he considered it essential to remind God’s children of this fundamental truth.
He was writing to those who already believed in Jesus Christ, reiterating that they “know” they have eternal life.
The word “know” is the Greek word “eido”, which means to observe and become aware. He wants you to observe and become conscious that you carry the organic and existential attributes of deity.
This awareness is vital, because your consciousness of your identity in Christ influences how you live, the decisions you make, and the outcomes you experience.
Notice the latter part of that verse: “…and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13 NKJV).
Why would John write to Christians—people who already believe—to believe on the Name of the Son of God? It’s because he wanted their faith to remain strong, unwavering, and unshaken by external conditions.
God knew they would face challenges, so He encouraged them to keep trusting and remain confident in His Word, regardless of circumstances.
Remember what He said in 1 John 4:4 (KJV): “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
You’ve already overcome, because the One who lives in you is greater than anything in the world. So, keep the Word in your heart. Let your faith remain steadfast.
Observe and become fully aware that you have eternal life—that divine life is greater than any challenge. Trust in it, and live every day in the consciousness of the victorious life Christ has given you.
