(Jesus’ Sacrifice Was Once and For All)
TO THE BIBLE: Hebrews 9:27-28 NKJV
“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.”
LET’S TALK
Imagine someone buys you a phone and pays the full amount, but you keep insisting on paying for it again every day.
Not only is that unnecessary, it also shows you don’t trust that the original payment was enough. That’s exactly what happens when people try to ‘punish’ themselves for their sins. Jesus paid the full price—once and for all!
Hebrews 9:27–28 (ESV) says, “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many…”
There is no further sacrifice needed for sin; it will never be necessary again. Jesus has already been sacrificed, and that one offering settled everything forever. Hallelujah!
Verse 26 of the same chapter explains that “He appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.” He didn’t offer something else—He offered Himself.
Hebrews 10:12–14 NKJV adds, “But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God… For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”
Before Jesus came, the Jews had to offer animal sacrifices year after year for the nation. Countless lambs were slain, yet the offerings could never make anyone perfect.
But Jesus—the sinless Lamb of God—was the perfect sacrifice. Through Him, all who come to God are perfected forever. There’s no longer any need to try to punish yourself or go through penance for your sins.
Hebrews 10:4–10 NKJV tells us, “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins… Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come— in the volume of the book it is written of Me— to do Your will, O God’… By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
Your own sacrifice will never be enough. The best thing to do is accept what Jesus has already done for you. With that one sacrifice, He perfected you forever. Blessed be God!
