(Teach, Preach, And Declare Repentance And Remission Of Sins)

TO THE BIBLE: Mark 16:20
“And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.”

LET’S TALK
When we read the Synoptic Gospels—Matthew, Mark, and Luke—we discover different perspectives on Jesus’ instructions about preaching the Gospel.

Each Gospel writer emphasises a unique part of the Lord’s command, but they all agree on one powerful truth: the Gospel is for everyone. It is meant to reach every man, woman, boy, and girl in every nation, without exception.

Mark’s Gospel gives us a clear structure for our mission. In Mark 16:20, we read that the disciples “went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them, confirming the word they preached with signs.”

This is still true today. Our responsibility is to preach the Word with faith; it’s God’s responsibility to confirm it with signs following.

Luke’s Gospel gives us an important insight into the content of our message. In Luke 24:46–47, Jesus said, “…Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

This tells us that the Gospel is not just a message of hope and love—it is also a call to change. People need to turn away from sin and receive God’s forgiveness in Christ.

While Matthew emphasised teaching all that Jesus commanded (Matthew 28:19-20), and Mark focused on preaching the Gospel, which the Lord confirms with signs (Mark 16:19-20), Luke gave us the full picture.

The Lord’s message was not just to teach or preach but to declare repentance and remission of sins among all nations.

At first, the early disciples may have misunderstood how far this message was supposed to go. For a time, they focused on sharing the Gospel mainly with other Jews, possibly thinking it was only meant for their own people.

But through prayer, revelation, and discussions like those recorded in Acts 15, they began to understand the full scope of Jesus’ command. The Gospel was always meant for the whole world—for every nation and every person.

Today, we have the same mission. As Christians, we are called to carry this message to the ends of the earth. We are to teach, preach, and proclaim repentance and forgiveness in the name of Jesus.

And just like in the early Church, the Lord is still working with us, confirming His Word with signs and miracles. Praise God!
