(Worship Can Unlock Divine Responses From God)
TO THE BIBLE: Matthew 15:22
“And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”
LET’S TALK
Prayer is a powerful and essential part of our walk with God. In previous studies, we explored two significant aspects of prayer: lifting up our hands and praying during the quiet hours of the night.
Both are profound in their own ways. But there is yet another mystery in prayer—one that involves faith and worship. This truth is beautifully illustrated in the story of the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:22–28.
This woman came to Jesus with a desperate request: her daughter was being tormented by a demon. She had probably tried every other option—doctors, remedies, maybe even traditional help—and nothing worked. In a moment of great need, she cried out to Jesus, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David!” (Matthew 15:22). She recognised who He was and reached out in faith.
But surprisingly, the Bible says that Jesus didn’t answer her a word. He was silent.
Imagine how confusing and discouraging that must have felt. Even the disciples were uncomfortable with the situation. They asked Jesus to send her away because her persistence was causing a scene.
Then, Jesus finally spoke, saying, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matthew 15:24). His words seemed to draw a boundary—one that excluded her.
Yet, instead of backing away, the woman stepped even closer. She worshipped Him, and with a sincere heart, she said, “Lord, help me” (Matthew 15:25).
Then came a reply that might seem hard to understand. The Lord Jesus said, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs” (Matthew 15:26).
Still, the woman wasn’t offended. Her faith was unshaken. She answered, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table” (Matthew 15:27).
In that moment, Jesus recognised her great faith. He said, “Woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire” (Matthew 15:28).
Instantly, her daughter was healed. This story reveals a profound lesson: worship can be the key that unlocks divine responses when it seems like there’s silence from God.
Have you ever prayed, and it seemed like you weren’t hearing anything from the Lord? You’re wishing you could hear from God, and it seems as though there’s no response?
Do what the woman did. In faith, worship the Lord profusely and sincerely, and you’ll get a response. Hallelujah!
