“INSPIRATION”

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

The word “inspiration” derives from the Greek Word “theopneustos,” which means “to be divinely breathed in”; to breathe or blow into or upon, that is, to infuse (as life) by breathing.

In other words, to be inspired is to influence, move, or guide by divine or supernatural motivation. It is to spur on, impel or motivate the material or persons concerned to carry out a given or required assignment.

As used in the scripture above, inspiration connotes the divine influence, breathing upon, infusion, or motivation from God to the holy men and women who penned God’s thoughts for us in the pages of the Bible.

They were spurred on; guided, and moved by God’s Spirit to write the Scriptures, which, over the centuries, have proven to be a life-changer for anyone who studies and meditates on God’s eternal Word contained in it.
